Configuration of a VistA system requires attention and decisions about the following things:

* Who is going to use the system
** What privileges will they need (Menu Options and Security Keys)
** What progress notes titles they need to access
** What role they will have for progress note access/modification/signing
** What type of work they are going to do.
** Simple demographics, mail code, telephone number, SSNs, etc.

* What locations are going to be in the system
** What department/service line/care line the location is part of
** What SERVICE/SECTION they belong to, and who is in each of those.
** If equipment inventory or engineering is going to be used
*** then each physical room needs to be in the computer.
** Will care is going to be provided in a room/location ?
*** What are the corresponding scheduling entities to those spaces

* What equipment is going to be a part of the system

*** What location are they installed.
*** Are they the closest printer for lab results, orders etc?
