In certain cases it may be necessary to protect a page from being edited. The MediaWiki software provides for a simple mechanism by which all edits that are not made by administrators are forbidden.
- Select the "Protect" tab at the top of the page for the article to be protected.
- Enter a descriptive reason for why the page is being protected.
- Confirm the protection by clicking the checkbox.
- Click "Confirm".
After you click "Confirm", the protection will be implemented by the MediaWiki software, and it will be logged in the protection log.
In order to unprotect a page, follow the same procedure, but give a reason why the page is to be unprotected.
Note: Only administrators are permitted to protect a page. (See also: protection policy.)
