The Four Slice Toaster was released in February, 2009, as a demonstration of a robust and secure VistA setup for two different users, each with independent instances running on the same installation of VistA.
A Toaster is a software appliance – virtual machine – that provides a complete FOSS stack of VistA on GT.M on GNU/Linux. It uses QEMU (and also kvm on Linux) as virtual host, and as with all VistA Toasters, it runs on most operating systems - Windows, Linux, OS X, Solaris...
The original Toaster was released in March, 2007.
